Just bought this the other day. The guy warned me it might be a tight fit for 2 bikes. He was right. I'm returning the rack and getting the one that holds 3. Perfect for transporting 1 bike, but not enough room for 2.

Over the last 30 years or so I've seen a lot of racks and used many racks. I'm now replacing everything and bought another rack from Amazon. It broke before we even put our bikes on the rack. So we took a trip down to my LBS and bought one of these. Thule are a great brand and i bought it knowing Thule products rule. I've used their roof bars and racks for years. This rack is easy to set up and hold firm on the trunk of our car. This is a great rack and we have confidence in it.

We use this for a 29" and 26" mountain bike. We picked the Gateway 2 specifically because we were looking for a rack that fit both our minivan and our compact hatchback. Once set up it goes on and off quickly and holds the bikes securely. A bike shop employee showed us how to set it up and secure the bikes properly when we bought it which shortened the learning curve. Otherwise make sure to do a practice run setting it up the first time. It would be nice if Thule included a couple of short straps for the front wheels, but the installation straps are long enough to use. I would recommend a frame adapter if you are carrying a ladies bike, although you could make due without it. In doing research I saw comments on some racks stating that they should have gotten the 3 bike rack to carry 2 bikes. This isn't necessary with the Gateway - it works fine with two bikes. The rack exceeded our expectations.
