This tire has great grip for typical Northern California conditions. It's a nice light tire. However, after 3.5 years on this tire, I have a love/hate relationship with it. I would not recommend it in a tubed application with less than 38 psi. I'm 6"1" 220 lbs and run this tire on a large frame Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Comp. The Captain is VERY prone to dangerous pinch flats when I run it below 38 psi. In technical drops or fast single track where you may put sudden downward forces on this tire, it will pinch tubes below 38 psi on my Stumpjumper FSR Comp every time. Also, this tire is a thin skinned goat head magnet. The 2011/2012 season was so frustrating, I started putting Tyvek between the tire and the tubes. As a tubeless tire, the sidewall is a little weak and prone to burping at lower psi. It's a fast tubeless tire with great traction on hardpack XC trails when you pump up the psi. All in all, a GOOD tire that is perhaps more narrowly tailored than advertised.

I've used this on the front of my bike for some time now, and I have a hard time loosing grip. I use it on trails and occasionally on the road.

Great tire for all terrain. Great on climbs, rocks, and packed moist dirt. Good on the dry loose stuff, but not great.
