This bike rips. Well buit. Fast. Playful. Smooth ride with the 29's. thou 29" wheels are too big for me @ 5'10" & a lil' too big for Alifia's technical side. Still love the bike. mine came sram crank, i would like the crank a bit stiffer.
Comments:
I take this bike to many different trails around NYC. This bike does it all well. For most of the time I leave it in trails position and climbs well and descends exceptionally well. Absorbs roots and rock gardens beautifully. The big wheels and crank make it easy to maintain to maintain high speed. I have even taken it to downhill park it performed great too. But it's no substitute for a gravity bike. My only complaint is 29er is a little to big for tight turning. If I could do it all over I would buy a 650 just for that reason alone.

A really nice bike. I'm a road rider who is approaching 70 and who likes to get in the dirt every now and then. Because of my age I take it a little easy out there. My mountain biking is mostly fire trails and single track, nothing real technical but certainly enough to challenge one. For me this bike does the trick. I appreciate the handling, design and build of this bike. It climbs really well with the compact gearing, I don't miss not having a triple, it smooths out the trails and gives me a lot of confidence. The 29er wheels really roll nice. I've put close to a hundred miles on it with no complaints. SRAM shifting, c1 brakes, fox shocks along with the wheels are all working great. As a matter of fact I seem to be doing a little more mountain biking these days.

It was an great bike except for brakes, rode it 400 miles of rock and root filled single track trails over the summer. Rear brakes squealed since day one, about 5 LBS stops later and I ended up investing in some new ones...at my own expense. After the brake change to Deore XT it rode like it should have straight from Specialized, became an amazing ride. Would be 5/5 stars without the brake issue, too much time spent tinkering and not enough time on the trails. No other complaints.

Love this bike. Its well made and does most everything I want it to do when riding trails and all mountain; not the best XC bike if lightweight and speed are your thing. Its a little heavier than I would like so pedaling long distances up steep hills is a chore. The Formula C1 brakes that came on mine are awful and I wound up replacing for Shimano XT with ICE rotors. That's the biggest downside to a bike that costs $2600 and ruined a potential 5 star rating. Overall, this bike is better than most in this price range and just a great design over many of the competitors.
Comments:
I have the 2013 model of this bike. Since day 1 it has been nothing but a headache. First the Avid Elixir brakes are terrible! Do not purchase any bike with these brakes. I have seen and heard nothing but negatives on these brakes. The brakes are really the big issue here, I have yet to go on a ride with my bike setup the way it should be. I have had to practically reset the pistons in the brakes almost everytime i ride. Next was the fork, i noticed something weird going on with my fox suspension and took it to my shop to find that I had a recall on it. That was 2 weeks without a bike. I understand that this is really a component issue and not a frame or specialized issue but i would come to expect more from S. My LBS has been good about making things right, but I have spent more time in the store and less time on the trail than I would like. This bike has been nothing but a disappointment for me. I am shopping around for something different now.
Comments:
Just returned from Whistler last week. Handled everything I threw at it. Keeping in mind I don't do the big jumps and double black diamond trails. Blue Velvet/Una Moss is my limit. Only thing I wish Specialized would do is upgrade the brakes from Avid to Shimano Zee's or Saints. Bottom line this is a great bike for anything from a short trail ride near home to flying down Whistler Mountain.
