Decent entry level Stumpy - Noisy brakes

    By alaskadude1948

    from St. Petersburg, Florida

    About Me

    Comments:

Been riding the bike for about a year now. I don't do much technical stuff but do like to cruise the bike paths and around the local parks. Overall the bike handles well but from the time I left the dealer the disc brakes, especially the rear, have made lots of noise....to the point where people turn around to stare when they hear me stopping. These are formula One brakes which I've been told are not the greatest. The dealer says there is nothing they can do to get rid of the grinding and sweaking sounds. I previously owned a different brand with Shimano disc brakes and they made no noise what so ever! If this was a common problem with this bike I think there would be lots of comments about it but I don't see too many. I think this is only a problem with a few like mine. Not going to deal with it much longer and am planning on selling soon. I don't think a bike at this price point should have these problems. Especially that supposedly can't be fixed.

This bike is insanely fast. It accelerates incredibly well. The guys @ Bicycles Inc. in Southlake, TX were right on point with their descriptive analysis. Thank you!!! – I look forward more than ever in riding by Stumpjumper Comp 29er. It certainly gives me an edge when it comes to staying competitive or getting the most out of your ride.

Awesome deal for a racing hardtail

      About Me

      Comments:

I weighed the carbon and aluminum and the AL was a couple of ounces less and It even had a set of pedals on it. Anyway, this bike is a climber. I love the controls, they are a different feel w/the SRAM, but they work awesome and I need a little practice using them. Very quick agile bike that can carry a big old fat man like myself. I give it a 10!

2014 Stumpjumper Comp is a great bike

      By Mike74

      About Me

      Comments:

I am back to being a Specialized fan! The geometry is so good on this frame that I am confident in saying that this is the best handling and most compliant aluminum 29er I have ever ridden. The more I ride it, the more confident I am at pushing myself faster in XC downhill sections as well as corners. I did have a front wheel issue dealing with looseness in the hub, but It was taken care of with a new front wheel and no hassle. My LBS and Specialized had great customer support. (Thank You) Bottom bracket should receive the same smooth weld technique that the rest of the frame has. (The only thing I think could be improved on for appearance)

        Teton tested...and loved dearly

        About Me

        Comments:

I got the 2012 in May. I can't stay off it. This bike climbs like a monkey and jumps like Spud Webb. The big wheels smooth out the rocks&roots.; The light weight makes for easy air and powering through berms. I'm 39ï»? and this summer I'm ridin' like I'm 19. It's gotta be the bike!

I love the bike more every time I ride it

        About Me

        Comments:

I have owned my Stumpjumper HT Comp for just over a year without any problems with frame or components. The spec is right on. The bike is incredibly fast yet still very comfortable. I switched out the crank to a 2x10 and had no problems. I would definitely recommend this bike for XC racing, XC riding and trail riding. It works great in Florida and I am looking forward to trips to North Carolina and Georgia later this summer so I can put the climbing to the test.

        Very Good but some issues

        By Orim

        from California, USA

        About Me

        Comments:

The fork and the drive train are great! The bike is lightweight and handles well. The wheel set is quite cheap and not the best quality. The saddle and the tires are probably the best parts of the bike along with the frame being pretty good. Its a great bike for racing and all around mountain riding.
