I've been riding this bike two plus years now and I have very little to complain about. Tires were swapped out for more appropriate ones for where I live. Fork has required nothing beyond routine maintenance as well as every other part of this bike! I ride it all, and I mean it ALL, and it's held up well, performed well and am very happy!

I have owned the precursor of this bike for almost 3 years now. I was 12 when purchasing this bike I'm now 15 and ride 3-5 times a week. I live in the north east and ride everything from extremely technical single track to fast burms and jumps borderline FR. the only problem is the shock on my 15.5 in frame does have enough travel and will hit on hard landings. I think they fixed that problem on later models. My mom who doesn't ride as well and only rides easy loves to take my bike whenever she goes out and loves it. All around great bike love the low gear ratio. The exact model of mine is a rockhopper expert 29 sl 2011

Just picked up this ride after being out of the saddle for awhile with other things. After riding a 40+ lb rigid monster for a good deal of my life, this bike feels incredible. I did some research and found the Comp to be decent all around and had a dealer in the area to work with. It feels solid and I have spent the last month or so dialing it up. It is a great cruiser on the trails and feels responsive on the mild to intermediate single track I have rolled on. Feels so good to be out there racing through the trees again; pretty much mostly what I do and think about these days besides the usual daily grind! I give it a 5 stars for the overall gettin' me out there again, and a notch down in the other areas since I know it will need some upgrades (fork, tires, 1x10) in the not so distant future, since I am riding everyday. But for the price (it was the best bike I could afford at this time), the frame appears to be solid, steady, and good looking enough to keep me going for years to come.

First few rides I noticed chain would get caught between large chain ring and frame. The gouges in the frame started to worry me, so I took it back to dealer. They fixed that, but now it'll 'ghost' shift 1-2 times whenever it wants to from whatever gear Im trying to be in. I have had 'lesser' bikes and never had problems like this. Haven't taken it on a trail yet, just pavement and sidewalks.

So here’s my story, I never even heard of Specialized until 3 months ago. Growing up, I was so used to riding those garbage bikes like Pacific and Huffy, that I didn’t even know any better. So after about 3 or 4 of those bikes falling apart right underneath my legs, I had-had enough! It was time for a good bike. So after tossing my boat anchor, I went down to my LBS and purchased Hardrock (which I love btw). Yet, at that time all I needed was a reliable bike that would get me to the duck blind and back (I’m an avid Duck Hunter). I never once thought about becoming an everyday rider. Well to my surprise, my Hardrock got me hooked! I started riding 3-5 times a week, losing weight, and getting in excellent shape. However, I realized my poor little Hardrock wasn’t cutting it on the trail. I needed something more. So 6 weeks later (yes, literally 6 weeks because of broken wrist and yes while riding my HR) I went down to my LBS and we custom ordered this beauty. Imagine if your 7spd V-brake clunker was a trail riding machine, and that’s what you got. I must admit though, if you want something racier, I would recommend swapping out the pedals and handlebars. That’s what I did (plus a few others) and it made all the difference in the world. However, if you’ve got a grand and are looking for a bike with all of the top entry level bells and whistles, look no further. The Rockhopper Comp is the bike for you!

I have had my bike for 3 weeks and I can't tell you how much fun it is ! Lightweight, durable and easy to ride from the first pedal stroke-fast and agile !

Great bike, but for the price I would expect a little higher quality front derailleur. The Acera rattles and rings right from the get-go. That's just a small complaint and an easy fix/upgrade. Other than that the pedals are pretty cheap so you can expect to upgrade those too.

I just picked this up from my LBS here in North Dakota and I love it! I grew up racing BMX, transitioned to BMX dirt jumping and until now I've only dabbled in mtbing on friends' bikes so this is my first real mountain bike. I was worried about getting a 29er as my first mountain bike but the geometry on this put that to bed quick. My only complaint is the fork; on rougher bits on a local trail I could feel the flex in the fork making damping a bit erratic but when a few hundred more dollars float my way it can be fixed easily. Oh.. and.. THAT PAINT!
