Much like the all-mountain riding they're designed for, Specialized's Rime MTB Shoes do it all. Just the right amount of stiffness is built in for efficient pedaling while still retaining flexibility for walking, and the grippy Vibram soles make hike-a-bikes easy. Of course, the Rimes feature Specialized's Body Geometry ergonomics for awesome support and comfort, while the Boa and Velcro closures make it a breeze to find a perfect fit on the fly. With armor around the toes and heels, synthetic uppers and wrap-style tongues that keep the dirt out, the Rimes are sure to be your go-to shoes when you head for the trail.

Initially I was really impressed with this shoe as it was comfortable and the first hike-a-bike capable shoe I had owned with a stiff enough sole for serious riding. I even grew to like the Boa and never had any real problems with it. The problem with my shoes was the soles; after a couple weeks of use the soles began de-laminating around the cleat plates. I considered trying to get the shoes warrantied, but this always seems to be a hassle and may have left me without my new shoes which I needed badly at the time to use for the CTR. The sole delaminating kept getting worse and after a season of riding the sole completely ripped off of the toe on one shoe. The rest of my outing was a lot tougher after that happened! Bottom line: this could be a great shoe, but they have poor durability, and like the other Specialized shoes I have owned, catastrophically failed after one season. Can't justify spending so much cash for another pair of Rimes knowing I'll be buying another pair next season.

I'm going to have to take these back for a refund. I'm a newer rider and ride a single speed (Specialized Carve). After around 30-40 miles, the flat plastic piece on the dial that gets bolted to the shoe has broken twice on one shoe and once on the other. (My Bike store replaced it the first time) It seems as if the pressure of "pulling" the petal on uphills weakens the plastic and eventually it breaks. That piece should be made of medal or something more sturdy. Otherwise, the shoes are great and feel good when huffing it. However, they are pretty useless without the broken Boa since it lets your foot slide out... which isn't fun when you're in the wilderness and miles from the car. It's a bummer because I really like these shoes otherwise.

I've had the shoes about a month and until today was very happy with them: they are good to ride in and to walk in and look ok to go out to a cafe in at the end of a ride. However today both Boa closures failed and I had to unbolt the closures to remove them to take the shoes off. I am guessing it is because I spent the last two days riding in dry, dusty conditions and dust has got into them, but that is no use for a MTB shoe.

love the wet traction of this shoe on logs & rocks. super stable on the pedals also. i actually prefer this to my old *****xc shoes because of the comfort & stability. :-)

I used the shoes for 4 months and the velcro straps broke as I was fastening the strap to wear them. I've had other specialized shoes and they were all great shoes, that's why I bought the RIME but the material used is very bad.

I bought a pair of the Rime's last season and as soon as I put them on, they were comfortable! Not extremely stiff and the vibram sole was great when I had to "hike a bike" over downed trees and rocks. No slipping! The stiffness of the shoe is good enough for power transfer during my XC races, but relaxed so walking, and standing on the podium, felt like a pair of running shoes. I've put a lot of miles on them within the past year, and not once did i have any fatigue or soreness issues. I'm definately ordering a pair of the limited editions white/black so I now will have a shoe that matches my race kit!! Thanks for a great product!!

FIt is nice, heel secure, velcro's do their job. Sole is cool. THe cleat pocket is sort of narrow, clipping in/out is more difficult than with other S shoes i've used. I find the boa a little frustrating, its impossible to operate with sweaty hands or if the dial gets wet, kinda common things to happen when actually riding. Some kind of index on the dial would be useful since its hard to get the snugness consistent, so you have to fiddle with it en route to get it right. Too easy to overtighten but the fit feels wobbly if not snugged down. And if you get wet, you can't adjust it on the fly. That and they kind of look like 80's Jazzercise work out shoes....
