Specialized's Purgatory Control 2Bliss Tire has a large, supple casing to float over rock gardens, roots and every other trail obstacle you encounter. Monster traction in soft/loamy conditions comes in the form of squared, biting side knobs with wide, openly-spaced center knobs that also clean the muck as you roll on through. And, the Purgatory boasts Specialized's 2Bliss technology so you can run low pressure and charge rocky sections without worrying about flatting.

Comments:
Just installed a Purgatory tire on the back of my Specialized Stumpjumper. The original tires, S-Works The Captain, held up well but after three years they had worn down significantly. Upgrading to the Purgatory was easy and the install was quick. On my first ride, I was amazed at the grip and traction this tire offered. Its wider than the Captains (2.3 vs. 2.0) and has a more aggressive tread pattern. I bought it for digging in on steep climbs, but also for holding up to sharp root ends and rocks on the predominantly hard-pack trails here. It proved itself on all accounts and looks to be a great all-around tire. If weight isn't a concern, I highly recommend the tire given its versatility.
