Specialized's Desert Protection Tube defends against flats in the harshest environments. It's thicker on the road side for puncture protection and thinner on the rim side for weight savings, while the Airlock self-sealing solution fixes most flats on the spot and prevents slow leaks.

Put two of these in the Kenda 2.3 MTB tires today for the first ride on an easy desert trail. The trail looked clean, but got a flat a 5 miles into the ride and discovered the tube had split at the valve base. It would not seal, it was too big of a split and it was also near impossible to attach the pump or close the valve. Put in a regular tube and headed back and in 2 more miles (at 7 miles of riding) the exact same thing happened to the rear tube. No more tubes, time to walk. The guy in the Specialized shop said he didn't carry these because they are difficult to use with presta valves??? Never again.
