Specialized's Crave Comp 29er is built upon an M4 butted-aluminum frame, 100mm RockShox fork and big, 29-inch wheels. All these attributes combine to form a bike that handles superbly, corners with distinction, and creates a more confident position for technical riding. The wide-range SRAM/Shimano 2x10 drivetrain and the all-weather braking power of Shimano disc brakes give you a steed that begs to be ridden no matter the terrain or the conditions. And, you'll love the quality Specialized rims and components which hold up great no matter how hard or long you go.

I recently got back into the sport after being away for 19 years. I wanted something well equipped but wouldn't break the bank, and the 2014 Crave Comp fit that bill for me. I've taken the bike on three different single-tracks totaling 20-25 miles, and about 30 miles of paved riding. It has been a lot of fun! --BUT-- After the first 10 miles of paved riding I started hearing noise coming from the rear hub area. I took it to my local bike shop and they said all sounded normal, but bring it back if what I hear gets louder. After about 15 miles of single-track and another 10 of paved riding I brought it in for derailleur adjustments and again to have them listen to the noise from the rear hub. Again, they couldn't hear anything wrong. Finally today after some more single-track and paved trails I brought it back to them with a noticeably louder noise and they finally could hear what I was telling them I heard. There has been a sort of grinding sound coming from the rear hub area that is only noticeable when you are coasting or pedaling backwards. It isn't the normal free-wheel "clicking" sound, it is something else. So far that has been the only issue with this bike and other than that, the bike has been great. It is quick, fairly light weight, handles pretty well for this newbie. I just find it unacceptable for a component such as the hub or freewheel or whatever it is, to fail after only 10 miles of riding, and isn’t the quality I expect from Specialized.

I love my Crave Comp. Bought it five weeks ago and could not be happier. Geometry is awesome. Rides super light uphill. Components are solid at this price point and Shimano brakes are a step up from last year's model.

After 16 years with my previous bike it was time to put it into retirement. I was very hesitant to purchase a new bike and was definitely looking for the best bike I could get with a restricted budget. After researching for a few months my local dealer recommended that I take a look at the new 14' Crave Comp 29. At long last I found the bike which not only fit my budget, but also had a great set of components for the money. This bike has improved my climbing speed and allowed me to navigate obstacles my 26er would never allow. I am very happy that Specialized still builds a bike for the common rider who demands excellence in their bike performance. I am looking forward to many years of enjoyment from this great bike.
